Do you Still Remember the Big Buzz around Y2k? Just Picture for Someone like me who had just Graduated from School back then, It was the Biggest Marketing Lesson Ever. In-fact, If you recollect it was the Biggest Marketing SCARE ever, I can still hear the Software companies Shouting Loud, ” As the clock TICKS 00:00 all systems whether home, airports, banks will shut Down, You can avoid the Biggest Software Glitch ever by getting your SYSTEM Y2K Complaint.”
As you read below, You might connect with me, because, In those days my most significant and Prized Possession was a PC with a 14-inch Monitor, named after it’s PROCESSOR and called the Pentium-2 350 Mhz.
Can you Imagine, I was amongst the ‘Privileged-Few’ who had such a Top-Of-the-Line PC in those days.
If you can recall the Y2k Hype, you will remember how People believed that the Flights might just Halt in AIR, Banks might Freeze the Accounts and OF COURSE, I believed that my system might Refuse to boot any further…
As it was destined, 31st December 1999 11.55Pm, I was Ready to Say Good-Bye to My beloved “Pentium-2” in the Next five minutes.
And We all know what happened the Next Day on ” 1st Jan 2000 ” ?
Voila, It was just another day and Nothing happened, …”LOL” [ in Chatting Language 🙂 ]
My system booted normally without any y2k Certification and
You might wonder why no one EVER spoke about Y2K again? And,
How Short-lived our Human Memory is?
What you probably missed is that the Software companies made Millions
with the whole Y2k Marketing Drama.
We probably learned Two Lessons from the Y2K episode in our lives :
- Did you notice that Marketing is all about creating a Hype about a Problem, then Involving and scaring everybody about the outcomes and later Just like a super-hero coming-up with a Life-Saving Solution.
- Wouldn’t it be amazing to Just Wait & Watch, before you blindly follow the crowd
And as you Learn from others mistakes and Move forward, you will begin to master Smart-work that will Save you Time & Money. As you read this word by word you will agree that 18 years after the Y2K Hoax, as the clock ticks into 2018 TODAY, you sense the similar buzz around VAT in UAE.
As we all know that VAT is being Introduced in the Middle East for the first time, and,
You will probably acknowledge that it’s a big step in a region where people are not even used to simple Book-Keeping. While you Sense that many people are concerned about taxation and it’s outcomes, You can also hear the Radio ads of Software companies Scaring the Hell out of people, Inviting them for FREE VAT Training sessions.
Of-course you know they want to sell their Magical Problem Solving Software afterward.
So should we really Rush-In to buy Software’s and Learn from the people who themselves are not clear about the actual procedures?
If you want my answer, I believe that Instead of Listening to Private companies, You should Visit the Government Sites and Follow the Guidelines and Regulations. You probably Don’t need to be Scared of new regulations, Wouldn’t it be amazing if we rather look for new opportunities that will come with it?
Can you Just Wait & Watch, think positively and then You will begin to understand that How the VAT will bring-in enormous revenues for the country, and as you begin to See the growing Economy, You must believe that there will be millions of new opportunities opening for its people.
As you read my views here, I Welcome 2018, with a Positive Enthusiasm towards VAT .
I wait & Watch to capitalize on New Opportunities that will flood-in to a much more ROBUST UAE economy.
We must Congratulate UAE for Implementing VAT, and together we must Hope that this critical STEP will take the Country to New Heights, and We shall see a Significant boost in its Economy, and, as UAE embarks on this Journey Of Growth and SUCCESS, Everyone Shall reap the fruits of its Flourishing prosperity.
